1. The Lion King Ticket Prices

The Lion King is one of London's most enduring and well-loved musicals and attracts audiences from across the globe with its innovative puppetry and bright set design. With a large cast, bold effects and costumes, ticket prices currently range at face value from £35 to over £220. Many tickets below £50 are in the back sections or restricted view, but there are some very good value options here.

There are several schemes to help you get cheap Lion King tickets, including Day Seats and reduced rates for groups and seniors. The show isn't regularly discounted, but you can usually get some of the best prices in seasonal promotions.

If you can't find a discount, don't worry. Below we've put together a complete guide to making the most of your budget and getting cheap Lion King tickets.

2. When to Book Tickets for The Lion King

There is usually good availability for The Lion King up to a week or so in advance, although the cheaper price bands sell out earlier. If you want to see the show on a weekend or over the school holidays, book a month or more in advance to ensure you have the best choice.

Weekends and school holidays are peak periods, which means these dates are more expensive than an average weekday during term time. Off-peak dates will save you money, so if you can book tickets for an evening performance on Monday - Thursday.

There are not many Lion King ticket offers available year-round, so keep an eye out for exclusive prices during seasonal promotions like Kids Week (free tickets for under 17s), London Theatre Week or the London Theatre New Year Sale.

3. Last Minute Lion King Tickets

There are various ways to get good value last-minute tickets for The Lion King. TKTS has a booth in Leicester Square or listings online for discounted same-day tickets. The Lion King isn't always included but it's worth checking.

Disney's £29.50 Magical Mondays tickets for The Lion King are released every Monday at midday, with tickets available for shows the same week. These sell out fairly quickly and are limited to two per person, so log in mid-morning to ensure you're ready to book. Locations are across the auditorium and at the venue's discretion.

The Lion King also has last-minute dynamic pricing. Unsold tickets online and in person may drop in price as the performance date gets closer. This is usually on mid- or top-price tickets rather than the cheapest tickets. For example, at the time of writing in January 2024, Stalls N6 is £75 this evening and £85 one week later:

This does not hold for every date, especially during school holidays or when a performance is nearly sold out. Always spend time getting a lay of the land before jumping in to buy last minute, because prices are influenced by supply and demand in both directions.

4. Where to Sit at The Lion King

5. The Lion King Cheap Matinee Tickets

There are three Lion King matinees each week, at 2.30pm on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Evening performances start at 7.30pm.

Midweek matinees are cheaper than weekend matinees, although not usually cheaper than weekday evening performances.

Some Saturday evening tickets are cheaper than Saturday matinee tickets, possibly because families are more likely to attend in the afternoon. For example, Stalls N33 is £145 on a Saturday evening in April, but £165 at the matinee.

This doesn't hold true for every Saturday however - when we checked, most current weekend matinees seem to have the same prices.

6. The Lion King Discount Tickets

We have already mentioned seasonal promotions if you're looking for cheap tickets, but there are several other ways to secure discounts at this top West End show.

The Lion King Access Discounts

Special rates are available for Access customers at The Lion King. These are subject to availability and can be booked by phone on 0800 912 6971, at the Box Office, or by email at lyceumbo@theambassadors.com.

Student and Senior Rates

Previously, students and seniors (60+) could get special rates for The Lion King. Students could get £20 Day Seats for the next two weeks, in person at the Lyceum Theatre box office. Seniors could get discounted tickets for Wednesday performances if booking in a group of 10+. These are no longer advertised on the official website, but it doesn't hurt to contact the venue and ask!

2 for 1 Lion King Tickets

There are not currently any 2 for 1 Lion King tickets available, but if you follow our other tips you'll be able to save money on your trip.

Other Discount Lion King Tickets

Boomark ticket agents such as Love Theatre, lastminute and London Theatre Direct. These agents often have theatre discounts that aren't available at the box office. Love Theatre currently has a 10% teacher discount through Discounts For Teachers.

7. Group Discounts for The Lion King

There are various group rates available at The Lion King. For general groups, the below applies:

• Groups of 9+ reduced to £50 (or £55 at peak performances) for Stalls and Royal Circle. If you book 8+ weeks in advance, you can save an extra £5 per ticket at certain performances. Tuesday - Friday only
• Groups of 9+ reduced to £40 (or £45 at peak performances) for Grand Circle. Tuesday - Friday only
• Groups of 20+ reduced to £45 for Stalls and Royal Circle. If you book 8+ weeks in advance, you can save an extra £5 per ticket at certain performances. Tuesday - Thursday only
• Groups of 20+ reduced to £35 for Grand Circle. Tuesday - Thursday only

For senior groups, the below applies:

• Previously, Senior Groups of 10+ reduced to £35 for Stalls and Royal Circle on Wednesday performances - this is not listed on the official website but worth enquiring about

For education groups, the below applies:

• School Groups of 10+ reduced to £25 and £29.50 for Stalls and Royal Circle / £19.50 and £22.50 for Grand Circle. One free teacher ticket for every 10 students. Tuesday - Thursday only
• University Groups of 10+ reduced to £35 for Stalls and Royal Circle or £29.50 for Grand Circle. Tuesday - Thursday only

8. The Lion King West End Ticket Packages

The Lion King is a popular West End show for adults, children, tourists and Londoners and there are plenty of hotel & show or dinner & show packages:

• Tourist England's Lion King London hotel package
• Virgin Experience Days' Lion King tickets with dinner

Many of these are for two people rather than families, so you might find it cheaper to DIY your package.

9. About the Lion King Venue

The Lion King has played at the Lyceum Theatre since opening in 1999. The Lyceum Theatre is just off the Strand and a short walk from Covent Garden so is ideally located for a full day of visiting London's top tourist attractions. There are plenty of cheap food outlets and supermarkets nearby if you want a quick and easy lunch or dinner.

Drinks, including alcoholic drinks, and nibbles can be purchased from the bar before the show and during the interval. However, these are very expensive so we recommend bringing your own refreshments to save money. Hot food, hot drinks and alcohol cannot be taken in from outside the theatre, but soft drinks and small snacks like chocolate or sweets are usually allowed.

The venue is part of the Q-Park Theatreland Scheme for money off parking in London.
